PSK31 QSO with James/ACŲCW
by Gary/K4EXT on Wed 07-04-2007

The spectrum image and text below is from a PSK31 QSO between Gary/K4EXT and James/ACŲCW that took place on May 2, 2007. Note that the QSO print includes a considerable amount of garbage data due to 20-meter band conditions (especially QSB) plus the fact my keyboard typing (albeit nice-n-slow) is pretty lousy. Note that this QSO was a chance encounter ... not a pre-arranged sked.

N p haatnet heard about Jack. Send my condolences to his family.
I do ton PtÕ =eevri< le t §ma time, after finishing the
interface box. Still have not5octhe PTT working, so I have to
switch manually.
So far, you're about my fifth or sixth QSO, I'll have to count
them.

OK on the fifth or so QSO James. Still missed a little copy due to QSB ...
it's always a problem on PSK it seems. Yeah, Jack was a pretty good guy and
his death was sure unexpected. Still not sure of funeral plans ... his
daughter Michelle is supposed to let Jerry/N4RYC know about that stuff when
finalized. I listened around 14058 a few minutes ago to see if you were
threr ... then just came on up to 070 and loaded up DigiPan. Was surpirsed
to see you calling CQ! BTU AC0CW DE K4EXT K

on account of being distracted by bystanders and forgetting to switch back
to Receive. I need the t the~tt ay working. RR on Jacks's Daughter
letting Jerry know the details. I haven't worke t mete telna e eot cĻple
oo days, and I've been intending to get back into it soon. Probably later
today. Just got kind of caught up in this PSK deal. I was surprised when I
sai you come back to my CQ.. I was like, YESS! So, how does my signal look?
Is my Mic Gain set low enough to keep the IMD Down? And do I have to do a
CW ID every 10 mins? I've been doing it anyw y. BTU Gary. AR K4EXT de

AC0CW DE K4EXT K4EXT OK on most of that James. Well, your sig looks fine
here ... no extra sidebands and pretty solid in the center. I guess that's
what it oughta look like when all is well. BTW ... please let me know how
mine looks also! I do not do the CW ID thingie ... don't know if it's a
requirement or not ... but my volume is always turned down anyway so would
not know if others are doing it or not. Just a sec while I check Email ...
been waiting for Jerry to Email us the info. Well, darn ... can't get this
silly thing out of multi-channel mode. Sometimes DigiPan likes to crash on
me when I really don't want it to so was trying to get back into single
channel mode to avoid that! BTU AC0CW DE K4EXT

iatfeiiia5da your signal looks pretty good on this end in between the QSB.
Your Sigs looks good between QSB. I lost everything you said between Volume
and BTU, I could see you in the watitfall, and on ae spectrum, but was not
receiving any text other than an occasional "e" or "t". I don't have an
audio monitor set up on mine yet, either. That's next after getting the PTT
to work on its own. I'll look into the regs about the ID. What software
are you using do Oe eR zusing Win e q. ] 4toe e sii a#i itie o e

AC0CW DE K4EXT K4EXT OK James ... QSB nasty right now. Am running DigiPan
software ... have looked at some of the others but they are too complicated
for my pea-brain! Well, last Sunday at Koffee Kettle we had myslef,
Justin/KG4VBK, Jerry/N4RYC, Jim/KL0LN, and Jim's brotjher Duane Scott ... so
was another small crowd. But praise God ... no GRITS at the table! We missed
the Tuesday night thingie last night, but we seldom go to that anyway. Won't
keep it long due to QSB ... so BTU AC0CW DE K4EXT K

neea cltt t e Koffee Kettle to do my part, I would HI. I guess nobody
wants to fill my shoes and annoy you with the grits. HI. I've been missing
all the going out to eats, it was always fun to get together te e syone and
talk about 'stuff'. I've been on the air a lot more here, though. How copy
now?a And do you still want totoet up a CW QSO sked?eŠ e oosto Gary.

AC0CW DE K4EXT K4EXT OK on just about all that time James. No, don't really
need to try CW I guess ... I like PSK much better myself. I'll be in the
County Hunters CW Contest this weekend ... contests are about the only time
I work SSB or CW anymore. I like contesting just for the fun ... never try
to score big points and usually do not even submit my logs. Yeah, I really
think that EARS stands for EATING ALWAYS RANKS SUPREME rather than the real
acronym it stands for. I used to think it was really funny all the dinners
... then discovered that they are pretty neat. Wish I had the energy to go
to all of them! Well, better get back to my chores here ... the cats are
inside and wanting to be fed I guess. I gathered them up when Justin started
mowing the grass ... they tend to want to play around the mower too much.
Now they are bugging me for something ... either food or wanting to go back
outside! BTU AC0CW DE K4EXT K

rather, see you on the screen, since I can't hear anything. And Curiosity
