July 2006 Minutes

The meeting was called to order by Todd-KI4DFC at 7:17 PM.

Introductions of all present were made.

The minutes of the June meeting were read and approved.

The treasurer's report was read and approved.

PRESIDENT'S REPORT:

Todd- KI4DFC welcomed all present.

VICE-PRESIDENT'S REPORT:

Buck-K4HKR stated that New Brockton is still dying.  He also stated that as 
a plank owner of EARS that he believed that this was the largest group to 
attend a meeting in his memory.

PIO'S REPORT:

Glenn-KD4FNI reported that most of the outlets that he sent Field Day notice 
to had printed or announced the event.

REPEATER COMMITTEE REPORT:

Jerry-N4RYC reported that the repeater is working fine.  The APRS that was 
at EOCC was taken off air and moved to Dothan. That station was N4JAG and 
now is WD4ROJ-2.  Bob Monk-WA4GIU is now working on connecting the radio, 
tnc and computer together to complete the APRS I-GATE (internet gateway) to 
go up at EOCC. That will allow all local APRS traffic to be sent to the 
internet and any callsigns that we desire, to be sent from the internet out 
on RF so that we can see them locally.

EC'S REPORT:

Jim-KL0LN stated that he had still not been able to contact anyone with the 
Firefighters to see about the radio equipment that they were no longer 
using.  He further stated that we still needed to go to the EMA office and 
check out the antennas.

OLD BUSINESS:

Todd-KI4DFC said that he had contacted Jeff at WKMX about obtaining the 
crank up tower for EARS.  Jeff told Todd that they were going to use it for 
a backup transmitting tower if theirs fell.  After a goo hearty laugh by 
all, Rick told Todd to call Don about the tower.

Todd also stated that the Red Cross had conducted training for volunteers 
for the EOCC shelter.

NEW BUSINESS:

Todd reported on Field Day.  We had 16 participants and 125 contacts. Our 
overall score was 250 points.

Jack-W4UZR reported that the Geneva County club Field Day. They had a good 
time with 9 operators participating.

Upcoming Hamfests  Huntsville 19-20 August.
               Montgomery 11 Nov

Jim-KL0LN stated that he got a letter from the Montgomery Ham club informing 
him that they would be collecting sales tax from anyone selling at the 
hamfest, including individuals.

Jim also related his conversation with the Mayor regarding his desire to 
have back-up Ham communications at the city Hall, Fire Department, Police 
Department and Hospital.  He is waiting on a list of equipment needed to 
meet that requirement.

All business concluded, the meeting was adjourned at7:48 PM.
