It's Baaaack!

On Tuesday December 7th, at approximately 12:15pm, the EARS 2-meter Mark IV repeater became active once again from its home-sweet-home on Highway 167.

Since few folks had the opportunity to hear the first several transmissions via our resurrected repeater on that historic day, your dutiful newsletter editor closely monitored and annotated the following pithy comments:

  • Bob/WA4GIU: Don't even think about bringing this thing over to my house again!
  • Duane/WA4WQW: It ain't quite a Porta-Peater, but it'll be ok I guess.
  • Jerry/N4RYC: How come there ain't no pots for me to turn no more?
  • Gary/K4EXT: How come there ain't no pot for me to smoke no more?
  • Dianne/KR4CX: Receiver sensitivity is great Bob ... I just heard a ham in Uhah!
  • Rick/N4JAG: I see lightning in the distance. Quick ... grab your tin-foil hat and run for your life!
Seriously though, I'm sure all of us appreciate the efforts of the handful of members (namely Duane, Tom, and Jerry) that kept us on the air these past five months via the Porta-Peater. And to Bob Monk, for his magic in bringing our good ol' Mark IV back to life, we say ...

T H A N K Y O U     B O B !

Last Call Folks!

The EARS Annual Christmas dinner will be held at Po Folks on the circle in Enterprise beginning at 7:00pm on Friday, December 17th. Please arrive around 6:30pm for socializing prior to dinner.

The menu will be similar to last year - fried turkey, ham, and all the usual trimmings. The price is the same as last year ... $12.00 per person (tip included).

Note that our Christmas Dinner is not just for EARS members, but also for all local area hams and their families.

Please make sure you inform Rick/N4JAG as soon as possible on whether you will be attending this year's Christmas Event!

EARS Tid Bits

  • Please note that there will be no Amateur Radio testing in December due to the annual EARS Christmas Dinner
  • Ham items from silent key W4OTQ have mostly been sold, but an updated list from Bob/WA4GIU can be found online at www.hamdepot.com/ears/w4otq.txt
  • Ham items from silent key N4WIG are being sold via Jim/KLØLN and can be found online at www.hamdepot.com/ears/n4wig.txt
  • Please send your comments, complaints, contributions, or ideas for my new ham radio project, The Porta-Peater-Pro, to Gary/K4EXT
Dues Check

This issue of the EARS newsletter includes a new method of informing members on payment of club dues.

This change will help ease the monthly burden on your old-n-grumpy newsletter editor by allowing a more automated method of publishing and distributing.

If you get your newsletter via Email, the subject line includes the month when you are scheduled to pay dues.

If you get your newsletter via postal mail, your address label includes the month when you are scheduled to pay dues.

After you are three months overdue, you will most likely be dropped from the active roster by your old-n-grumpy secretary/treasurer. If you can't attend a meeting, please mail your check (payable to EARS) to the club address shown on page 1 of this newsletter.
