The Annual EARS Christmas Dinner was held on Friday December 17th at Po Folks Restaurant in Enterprise. Quick observations indicate that all attendees had a great time and delicious meal. However a more detailed analysis of the evening audio, as captured by your Newsletter Editor with his well-hidden miniature tape recorder, yielded some interesting comments as noted below:

You may or may not know that our Mark IV repeater took a severe lightning strike in July that destroyed many chips, traces and other components. The battery charger, timer and battery were also destroyed as well as the telephone circuit. Since that time, Bob Monk (WA4GIU), has spent many hours repairing it with a great degree of success. It has been back on the air for about a month now and seems to be working fine. It is still missing its voice capabilities, but Bob/WA4GIU is working to solve that problem too. He is waiting word from the company that now sells this brand of repeaters to determine the next step. Up until this time, the cost of repairs has been about $650. Most of the initial parts cost was paid for by Tom/WA4YQT and Jerry/N4RYC. Just before Christmas, Jerry/N4RYC started calling members seeking donations in the amount of $50 so that we could compensate Bob/WA4GIU somewhat for his effort at the Christmas dinner. By the time of the dinner, we had collected $625. We are still short of funds to pay for the expenses that we have plus there will be more expenses prior to completion of the project. In light of the above, the repeater committee is seeking donations of $50 (or whatever you can afford) from each member to pay for the repairs and build a small reserve in the treasury. We would appreciate your calling Jerry/N4RYC at 334-347-4650 and informing him of your donation prior to the January club meeting as well as sending your donation to the club address on page 1. If we have not heard from you by the January club meeting, Jerry/N4RYC will try to contact you by phone, so please let him know ASAP so that he doesn't have to beg! |
