Field Day 2003

Fun times were had at the annual EARS Field Day held at Johnny Henderson Park on June 28-29. Contest QSO's may not have been numerous, but good eats and long stories were sure abundant!

Rain was forecast for both days, but not a single drop fell between Saturday setup and Sunday teardown. Murphy's Law made an appearance though, as bad antenna coax had to be replaced after much troubleshooting and frustration. Attempts to get a CW station on the air also failed. But SSB operations went well and the new logging software contributed by Jack/W4UZR successfully tracked the 166 contacts.

Tom/WA4YQT did his annual Emeril Live routine with a Hamburger/Hotdog cookout (along with contributor side dishes and deserts) on Saturday evening plus a Bacon-n-Eggs breakfast on Sunday morning.

Participating in Field Day 2003 were: K4EXT, K4HKR (and Peggy), KD4FNI (and Darlene), KD4KT, KD4KZY, KE4VEP. KE4VPF, KG4VBJ, KG4VBK, KG4VBM, KLØLN, N4JAG, N4MBQ, N4WIG, N5TKT, W4UZR, WA4WQW, WA4YQT, and a few visitors.

Proposed Constitution Amendment by Rick Palsulich, N4JAG

In accordance with Article VII, Amendments, of the EARS Constitution, I make a motion to amend the By-Laws, Paragraph 2, Membership, as follows:

Present:

Full membership is open to licensed amateurs and those actively engaged in a class leading to an Amateur Radio license. Associate membership is open to all licensed amateurs, Technician Class or higher, residing outside the normal range of the club 2-meter repeater. Limited membership is open to all other interested persons. Full membership includes all club privileges as well as rights to hold a club office and vote. Associate and Limited membership includes all club privileges except for the right to hold office and vote. Applications for membership shall be submitted, and voted on, at regular meetings.

Proposed changes (note sentences in italics):

Full membership is open to licensed amateurs and those actively engaged in a class leading to an Amateur Radio license. Associate membership is open to all licensed amateurs residing outside the normal range of the club 2-meter repeater, OR those handicapped and/or disabled to the extent that they are unable to attend club functions or effectively use the club's 2-meter repeater. Limited membership is open to all other interested persons. Full membership includes all club privileges as well as rights to hold a club office and to vote. Associate and Limited membership includes all club privileges except for the right to hold office and vote. Applications for membership shall be submitted, and voted on, at regular meetings. If appropriate, Associate membership status will be determined at that time, or at a future meeting, should the member status change.

Note that this proposal will be voted on at the July 17, 2003 EARS meeting.

Those members not present and able to vote at the July meeting will
automatically enter an absentee vote of YES unless that member has
notified any elected officer in advance of his or her desire to vote NO.

This is required because Article VII of our Constitution requires a two-thirds
vote of the total membership, not just those present at the meeting.
