Dennis the Menace

Hurricane Dennis paid a visit to the Wiregrass area on Sunday July 10th. Fortunately, the menace lost much of his tropical punch right before landfall. Hopefully all EARS members and their families came through this early-season storm without any major problems.

Eyewall kudos are in order for several EARS members and local area hams that provided emergency services during Hurricane Dennis:

  • Todd/KI4DFC, Jerry/N4RYC, Leon/KD4KT, and Ken/KG4RND manned 2-meter communication posts at Red Cross shelters located in Enterprise and Elba
  • Jim/KLØLN, Ross/KD4KZY, and Tom/WA4YQT assisted in the setup/maintenance of radios, antennas, and generators at shelter sites in Enterprise and Elba
  • Rick/N4JAG created/managed a timely and helpful listing of local closures and cancellations via the WKMX website

A complete report on EARS activities with the Red Cross during Hurricane Dennis will soon be published by Todd/KI4DFC and posted on the EARS website.

Also note that if you would like to volunteer your services for communications-related duties in future emergencies (ie, five named tropical systems in our neighborhood before July 15th ... me truly thinks the sky is falling), please contact our ARES Coordinator Rick/N4JAG or our Red Cross Liaison Todd/KI4DFC as soon as possible.
