APRS Digipeater de Jerry/N4RYC

Since losing the Victoria site for our Automatic Positioning Reporting System (APRS) digipeater, we have not had decent coverage in the local area. That changed on Thursday, May 13th, when the RF BBS at EOCC was removed and WD4ROJ-1 was put into service there. The coverage is not as good as the Victoria site coverage was, but it's certainly better than the nothing we've had lately!

With this new installation of the digipeater, the RF side of the BBS was removed, although it is still accessible by Internet via the EARS Home Page link.

Once the 2 meter repeater and 440 repeater are linked and the dual band antenna is installed on the EARS tower, another APRS digipeater will be installed at that location which will increase our local coverage even more due to the increased height of the antenna.

APRS digipeaters allow for stations to broadcast their position, either stationary or moving, in conjunction with a GPS (Global Positioning Satellite) receiver. Future plans are to connect the EOCC digipeater to the Internet in order to make visibility of local stations available worldwide.

Hope this update is useful, and will be available to discuss the system at the EARS club meeting on May 20th.
