ROSTER UPDATE Don't ask me why, but Jim has changed his callsign from KB4BMA to KL0LN. His email remains the same for now.) The Alaska temperatures must have affected his brain. Please change your roster accordingly. de N4JAG E-MAIL A question came up about who does what on the newsletter. I'll clarify it a bit. N4RYC (Jerry) is the Editor of the Newsletter. I send him the event calendar, dues reminders, roster updates, and occasionally license renewals and stuff for packet and the repeater. The President might send him something, he may get some "For Sale" items from the members, etc. He then takes the various input, plus whatever he might put in himself, and sorts it out into the newsletter. He sends a plain text copy of it as a file to me in e-mail. While he is out having the copies made to mail out the printed version, I take the text file and edit it to a format more appropriate for generic-type Internet e-mail. (I don't include any graphics, pictures, etc., due to some members not having the capability to view them.) I then create an e-mail message and insert the edited text file into the body of the message. A double-click on "EARS" in my Windows address book and all the appropriate e-mail address wind up in the TO block of the message. Click on Send and a few seconds later it's waiting in your mailbox on your mail server. Meanwhile, Jerry is still folding, stapling, and stamp-sticking the printed version which usually goes out the next day. Now you know. For those of you reading this in the printed newsletter - if you have an e-mail address we'd rather send it to you that way. It saves us copying fees and postage. Drop me a note at rickp@awanet.com and I'll add you to the list. ValueGate is still offering the EARS special rates, too. Call Grace at 1-888-695-7200 and tell her Rick sent you for the EARS Ham radio rate. de N4JAG FLOOD As most of you know, flood waters hit the area hard once again. Requests for assistance came to the Coffee County Amateur Radio Emergency Service from the local Emergency Management Agency, Salvation Army, and the Red Cross. Special thanks to the following EARS and/or ARES members for their help. KD4IDG, KE4VEP, N4RYC, WA4YQT, KF4JCG, KD4KT, K4HKR, N4WIG, KD4IDK, and KF4DZR. Others contacted me and told me they would help if needed. Thanks to all. de N4JAG - Coffee County EC BREAKFAST Don't know what to do on Saturday morning? Come by Dottie's Country Kitchen on North Main Street in Enterprise around 7AM. We generally have a group of local HAMS that meet there for breakfast. We have a good time and food. Come join in on a friendly hour or so.
