NATIONAL PEANUT FESTIVAL The National Peanut Festival has asked the hams of the area to assist with both the fairground security detail, and the parade communications detail. This is the same thing that we have done in the past, but the budget squeeze has made our assistance even more important to the Festival and the Parade. The easy one first. The Parade will be on Saturday, Nov 11th. As usual, we will meet for breakfast (The Parade committee will pay for this), have a briefing, and then be dispatched to the parade route. If you can help us, I will promise you the best seat in the house, at the parade, for a few hours "work". It will help me in planning, if you will let me know that you want to help, and if you have a preferred location. Now for the big boy. In the past we have assisted with communications among the security teams on the fairground. This will consist of Dothan PD, Dothan Fire, Houston Co SO, DSI Security, and the National Peanut Festival. We are not involved in the actual security, but in the coordination of information among all of these groups. Our plan is to provide at least two hams on each shift. I am working with the NPF to get each volunteer a pass through the Agriculture gate for their day of service. We will have parking in the vicinity of the security trailer, the only problem will be to get us into the fairground. Here are the dates and times of the fair. We will need to be on the fairground at least 30 to 45 minutes before the gates open and we will need to be there at least until the gates close. If you can assist in any of these times (all or part of a day) please let me know. I screwed up!) Many of you probably do not receive the ARRL Letter. I have saved a few of the articles pertaining to the Ham participation in the disaster areas of New York, Washington, PA, etc. I've attached it as a plain text file. If you have already read some of the things, or don't care, just don't bother to open it. I know this has nothing to do with EARS, but I've had three members ask me about WTVY buying WKMX. You've got it backwards. No matter what you heard on the news. WKMX has bought a portion of WTVY-FM. Not the TV station, just the country music FM station. We will be managing it 100%. We don't know if they will be moving from their present location or not. Probably not, at least in the near future. KMX now owns WKMX-FM in Enterprise/Dothan, WTVY-FM in Dothan and Scenic Cable in Dothan. And no, I can't get you cable TV any cheaper! Sorry.
