After Valuegate pulled the plug on 13 August, we had to find another location for the equipment, preferably with Internet access. Thanks to David and ESJC, the antenna is now on top of their Science building, and the equipment is sitting on a table in David's office. Some initial problems with incoming e-mail seem to have been solved and all appears to be working fine at this time. While the system was down, WA4GIU took the time to spruce up the equipment to include a new hard drive and adding the SAM Callsign database on CD. (After connected, type: Q N4XYZ, and you'll get all the info for N4XYZ. Naturally, replace N4XYZ with the callsign of your choice.) Special thanks to all those that assisted in the installation over a three-day period: AE4QQ, WA4GIU, N4RYC, WA4WQW, KA4AFI, N4JAG, and the ESJC Maintenance crew. Even KM4JA and Gerald McDaniel, Dale County EMA Director, showed up to show their support. Thanks to all. In a related matter, all those EARS members that had service with Valuegate have had to change their ISP. Most have moved to Snowhill, some to Entercomp, etc. At any rate, as soon as you have a new e-mail address be sure and drop me a note at rickpal@snowhill.com and let me know so I can add you to our e-mail roster. Our EARS home page on the web is also now at http://www.snowhill.com/~rickpal/ears.htm. Check it out. de N4JAG BOY SCOUT JOTA The Boy Scouts are asking for our help this year with their Jamboree On The Air. It will be held Saturday, 17 October, at Camp Alaflo, from 10 AM until 3 PM. More details will be discussed at the meeting. Please consider assisting. PICNIC The Dale County ARES and the Enterprise Amateur Radio Society will be sponsoring a picnic on Saturday, 19 September at 5 PM. It will for all Amateurs, family and friends. Bring your own lawn chair(s), a covered dish, chips, and/or dessert, and tea or soft drinks. We'll be providing and grilling the hamburgers. It will be held at the QTH of KD4FNI (Glenn Barnes) on Roy Parker Road in Ozark. From Enterprise go through Fort Rucker or take AL Hwy 27 to Ozark. Turn left (North) on US Hwy 231. Go past Hendrick's Home Center (on the left) and turn left at the next intersection onto Dale County 36. That's Roy Parker Road. The first house on the left is where you want to be. We look forward to seeing you there. FREE SPACE This space could be yours! Just write an article for the EARS Newsletter and submit it to the Editor - N4RYC - about a week prior to our meeting. See your story in print! Or, do you have something for sale or trade? We'd be happy to print it. We just need to know about it. Send it to: n4ryc@wd4roj.ampr.org or: geleam@snowhill.com BREAKFAST Have nothing better to do on a Saturday morning than sleep? Well, get your lazy butt up and come to breakfast! We show up around 7 AM at Dottie's Country Kitchen on North Main Street in Enterprise for breakfast or just coffee or even just a good time talking. If 7 is too early, try 8 AM at Ann's just off of Hwy 231 in Ozark. Same idea: good food and fellowship. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Electronic Edition Only New addresses for KF4BHP Aaron: psycho@entercomp.com and KF4CHK Kristen: mrspsycho@entercomp.com As I indicated above, check out the EARS home page at http://www/snowhill.com/~rickpal/ears.htm The Misc Links page has links to EARS members. If you have a home page, let me know and I'll add a link. If there is anything you think should be on the EARS web pages, let me know. rickpal@snowhill.com Remember that you don't have to have Packet to get to use the EARS BBS/Gateway. Just use your Telnet application to go to wd4roj.ampr.org or 207.157.18.252 over the Internet. If you are a registered user (and a Ham) you can exit the Gateway on 145.67 MHz RF, use the new built-in callbook, or connect to other sites like Mobile, Nova Scotia, West Virginia, etc. 73 N4JAG
